hi top trivia

In our continuing quest for a new gay/fun trivia home, we tried out the new trivia night at the new gay sports bar in the Castro: Hi Tops! Our ad hoc group quickly swelled with Eric and Glenn and those who joined them as well as our former adversaries-turned-teammates Hobin and Ruben-they had a "maximum of six players to a team rule," so we split in two teams. And one first and second place. While we did not win Best Team Name for our conclave-themed "You Just Know Those Bishops Are F*cking In There," We did win a $50 bar tab for first, and $25 bar tab for second places, but they had to be used right then, when we were all considering ourselves pretty much done for the night. Somehow, we persevered, and made it through. We are tough like that.

I also earned a shot of Jack and flirty attention from the Trivia Master for knowing not just the species but the name of the first animal sent into orbit, Laika the Russian Space Dog. Thank you Designing Women.

Tuesdays, 8:00 p.m., three rounds (two general knowledge and one photo round), at Hi Tops. Drinks are about $2 more than other Castro bars on a Tuesday, and no specials that night. But the eye candy, convenience, and superior fun times are well worth it.

The website is still pretty skeletal. Check their Facebook page for updated information.

the Free Bradicals

We took a second dip in the Missy Kitty trivia pool for Brad night. This week, and in a shout out to Nephew Bradley, we were team B-Rad.

The B-Rads

We take out trivia quiet seriously.

B-Rads trivia, very serious

I did laugh uproariously when I made a comment about T's kids and he shot up and said, "Oh! I've got to text my kids to go to bed!"

Earlier he had texted, from the bar, for them to brush their teeth. He is, in fact, an awesome dad. One of the awesomist. And I think this may be what a modern dad looks like. Still: Cracked. Me. Up.

Return to Drag Trivia

We have been feel and little empty and in need of competitive answering since Pollo stopped hosting Brain Farts Trivia at the Lookout.  But this week we finally returned to the Fun Times and joined forced with our Brain Farts nemeses Mark and Ruben to form a Super Team for Miss Kitty's Smarty Pants trivia night at the Stray Bar in Bernal Heights.

This week's theme was Hawaii, of which we know nothing.  But  had set out leis to bring for festive.  After a slightly creepy 24 ride over there, I realized I left them at home.  But the early shirt bartender was much with the cool, and when she overheard my lament she pulled out leis from a previous bar event, and fixed our drinks with cocktail umbrellas.

When the time came to craft our team name, we pulled it out with Mai Tai Me Up, Mai Tai Me Down.

We were doing pretty well until the final round, which was all Hawaii all the time. I had checked in on Four Square and my friend Aaron who lives down the block saw the check in and joined us. Good thing as Aaron used to live in Hawaii, and was a total ringer for our ultimately winning team.

Return to Drag Trivia! - 2

As is usual with good company and trivial matters, much fun.

And as I told my friend Gary who commented on this photo...

...the umbrella means it's healthy.
