Why, in god's name, did I not switch to a credit union earlier? Holy crap. For all my Bay Area friends, SF Fire Credit Union is by far the most decent banking establishment I've ever seen. Here's my 6-month review: there are no fees for anything ... checking, ATM withdrawals (they reimburse you for fees charged by other banks), overdraft protection, cashier's checks, deposited checks that have been returned, etc. Their credit card deal is ridiculous: 7.25% APR (for everything - purchases, balance transfers, cash advances), no annual fee, no over limit fee, no balance transfer or cash advance fee, free linkage to your checking account for overdraft, no foreign currency exchange fee, AND it includes a rewards program which you get to choose - cash back, gift cards, or travel points. Their iPhone app is sickening: access to all accounts, all online services, and bill pay, as well as check deposits using your phone's camera. Add in the fact their staff is always helpful, cheerful, local, and immediately available, you basically have a banking establishment that is apparently made of unicorn tears. Two giant thumbs up.
