a Wilson sort of Picket

This has been making the e-mail rounds, and was sent to me by Shilpa.

Love it.

Wholly shit?

The skid mark safe. Hide your valuables in these underpants that no one would want to touch. While I don't know if this is a brilliant idea or not, I do find it laugh-out-loud funny.

future so bright

Or rather, bedroom so bright, gotta wear shades.

Ginger has informed me now that Chuck's line ("For all the money she spent on draperies she coulda put some up in here.") is now infamous, she has finally installed some shades in the large guest bedroom. Fabulous drapes will have to follow, but at least there are some shades.

I'm sure I will appreciate that come Steeplechase weekend...

Shout Outs

I just got a call from Ginger, who apparently didn't know I had a blog. But she just heard some stories about her told back to herself, which originated here. First, I thought she knew I had a blog (how could she not?). Now she does. And secondly, she heard about the blog from Barry (Caldwell) Maddux. Now, I LOVE cousin Barry, but how the hell did she know about the blog?! Ginger's answer is that Barry is a mother, and mothers know everything.

Like I said, LOVE Barry. Glad you're here. Shouts to Ginger and Barry.

Word.

Freaky Friday

It's a familiar refrain: too much to do and not enough time to do it. And sadly my too much to do has nothing to do with my day job, and yet I am chained to my desk.

I had my taxes done by a friend and professional tax guy, so you would think that would be stress-free. But it turns out I owe money (still not clear how). And the deadline is in two days and I haven't paid or signed anything. I had to pester him last night to make sure all was set, but I need to go to his office to finalize things. And when would that be? It has to be Friday (today) or Saturday (tomorrow).

Jan will be here Saturday. She and her school will be leaving Tahoe at 7:30 in the morning, driving to Pier 39, taking the Alcatraz tour, then driving directly to SFO for their flight back to Glasgow. The only time Jan and I have to visit are that day, but she can't leave the kids so I am going to the island with them.

So I have to make time for TaxMan today. Which will have to be at lunch because Jan called yesterday with requests for items either only available in the states or likely half price here. Amongst the items on the list: The L Word Seaon 3, Alias Season 5, and a North Face women's down vest, black, size small (Because the North Face shop in Heavenly is out of them). Hmmm. The nearest North Face shop is downtown. But the cheapest place to buy DVDs is Target, way down the peninsula. Virgin Megaletdown, er Megastore would be convenient, but their markup is psycho. I'll have to call Best Buy and see if they have those-- that'll do. This sort of screws up my previous schedule for the evening as I really need to do laundry and get a haircut, and was hoping to clean up the squalor my apartment has become. And I really do have to pick up my print job from Kinko’s that has been waiting since Monday.

I haven't received any e-mails from the Rodeo recently so I checked the Yahoo group and apparently I have been missing messages and meetings. Not only do I feel like a total flake for these guys, but there is also a benefit party tomorrow night where I had hoped to volunteer, but I don't know if I can deal after Alcatraz and the airport. Add to that, I need to crank out some t-shirt designs ASAP. Crap.

And Sunday, of course, is Easter. I always have brunch after church with Kate and James (with the bill generously covered by Papa John). I wasn't sure about this year as Kate has just moved in with her boyfriend. But James' girlfriend is in Oregon and so we are going to have some quality time together for Easter lunch/dinner.

After Barney and I unwound at the Whiskey Lounge, we ran into an ex of mine on the street and we all proceeded to drink together at Sadlands. While I there switched to vodka, the Jack had already worked it's voodoo on my whodoo and my amorous filter was duly anesthetized. I had forgotten how adorable P can be when he smiles. He e-mailed yesterday and invited me to Easter dinner at his new home in Fairfax. Sounds like a fabulous affair, but will have to decline. I don’t think I am ready for that sort of social event (testing the waters with an ex with all of his friends, whom I do not know)—regardless of the fact I already have plans with James to be followed by Sundance, where I have plans to see C (another amorously bad idea). Maybe I can squeeze laundry in between there sometime.

Oh yeah, and I have to schedule a time for a talk with the landlady. That may have to wait until next week.

So now my stalkers know my weekend schedule. Look forward to seeing you. Just don’t stop to talk. I’m busy.

Bad Apples

Ah HA!

So after my 'Beatles suck' sort of rank here and here, the motive now becomes clear. Well, we always knew that ultimately it was about money, now we have context.

"That's totally something I would say."
"I know...Stop rubbing off on me!"
"Stop rubbing off on me." I see that on a t-shirt some day.

Over read

As opposed to overheard.

Thank GOD Dr. May has come to rescue me from the office. It's been one of those days/weeks. And I am so friggin SICK of the friggin RAIN. For comfort we are now heading to the fireplace and leather chairs of the Whiskey Lounge of the Red Grill.

I have been pestered for my lack of posts this week, so I leave you with the following snippets:

From the Peaches Christ newsletter:

Favorite pull quote:
This weekend I have the exciting yet daunting task of playing den-mother to over sixty seriously drunk drag queens on a chartered bus to Reno. Sometimes it gets a little bit stressful. Much of my job involves preventing people in wigs from getting themselves arrested for out of state illegal "acts". I have to admit that I love the annual Easter Weekend Trannyshack Reno trip. Think about this. I'm the sanest person on the trip and I am in charge. Me- Peaches Christ. That should give you an idea of just how fucked this whole situation really is. Anyhow, I'm really looking forward to the upcoming adventure and its many traditions, including our Auburn McDonalds stop on the way up. I'm gonna get a Big Mac and I'm puh-roud of it.

And from Wayne Bensen regarding the Pentagon's admission that it has been spying on LGBT groups:
Here is the thing that I don't understand: I watch the news every night and I never see gay terrorist groups blowing things up. The worst I have seen is a tizzy in a gay bar, but that hardly counts as a threat to national security. So, why is Big Brother watching us, other than the fact we look fabulous?

Consolation, prized.

"I'm really not that the whore I make myself out to be."
"Yeah I know. You're just trying to keep up with the gays."

What did tornados sound like before there were locomotives?

Surrender Dorothy

Brad called me this morning to tell me that massive tornados ravaged middle Tennessee last night. Luckily from what I have seen, Nashville was spared, but the surrounding areas to the north were just raped by this powerful twister. CNN and WTVF.

This tornado left much destruction in its path.

And seriously scary hail in its wake.

Jan in April

Woo hoo! Jan will be in town next Saturday! (more Jan)

Unfortunately, she is with her school group (she's a history teacher) which will be leaving Tahoe at 7:30 A.M., stopping for tourist stuff in SF, and flying out of SFO at 7:30 P.M. That just leaves the afternoon, and she can't leave her brood.

So she's booked an extra ticket for me to join them at Alcatraz. I imagine after chaperoning a bunch of fiesty young Scots on Easter break, she'd just as soon leave them there.

Looking forward to it!

bon mots for the bon bons

I've having a bite and a bucket of wine with Drinkie at Café Flore now. I'm posting, at her request, while she's in the ladies' room.

Apparently I have reached a level of mythical status with her peeps. And I am known for one quote in particular.

Now I suspect that it is not all that odd for a gay man to be enthralled by bosoms. For some reason, I am fascinated by a good rack. (I'm just sayin'.)

Drinkie is a beautiful young woman with a great figure. I made compliment one day, and I am sure I included "and loving this" (circling finger indicating her chest). She was surprised that a gay man would be a fan of a beautiful boobs. It seems my reply has made me famous:

"Hey, just because I am not interested in the plumbing doesn't mean I can't appreciate the architecture."

Chance

I'm thinking of making non-calling cards to hand out on occasion.

What do you think about "Get Out of Jail Free" or even "Go Directly to Jail" cards...

Dung Beatles

How is this still ongoing? Today's report on NPR's Morning Edition seems to indicate that the case is headed in Apple Corps'/the Beatles' favor. Is this a function of British diefication of the Beatles or a disfavor of American corporations? Clearly iTunes and Apple Computer are not a record label. The Beatles should just get over it, recognize that Apple is a global brand name for computers, and now iPod and iTunes and all the silly peripherals iBranded. I imagine no one caring about Apple Corps, nor ever confusing the little green apple record company with an iPod.

Do the remaining Beatles or their heirs have anything to gain other than money? If there's no harm, then stop crying foul. The winners so far have been the lawyers, and the losers have been the public.

Waypoint high points

I finally got to catch up with Seattle Bill yesterday. During our ramble, he let me in on a little trvia. There are two primary waypoints (navigational radio beacons) for the Nashville airport: Pickin' and Grinnin'.

Love it.

I checked some amateur pilot bulliten boards for verification, and found that Nashville is one of a few places left whose waypoints are still named with a sense of humor. They are:

PICKN
GRNIN (pickin' and a grinnin')

FIDDL (point on GUITR arrival)
GUITR (name of arrival)
and HEHAW

Other Tennessee waypoints include VOLLS, VANDD, LRETA, JCKSN, GRRTH, ATKNS, SKAGS, JUUDD, WAYLN, REABA, OPERY, and AKUFF.

It was been reported that, at least at one time, Portland, Maine's waypoints were named ITAUT ITAUH APUTY CAATT and IDIDD.

Switch hit

There's really no reason not to switch to a Mac now. I've always been an Apple fan, and when I took this job over a year ago, I was promised I could work on a Mac. (However, such has not come to pass.)

There is no reason why that this office cannot switch (back) to being an all-Mac environment. We only use our computers for e-mail, word processing, excel, file sharing, and Web stuff. Basically, Office for Mac and we'd be set, without the usual Windows problems which routinely plague this office.

Many offices are the same way, but there may be one or two applications (generally payroll or system-wide network related) which can only be run or accessed via a Wintel machine. I think our Director has a couple of institutional databases she needs to access occasionally which are PC-dependent. Does that mean you or she cannot switch to a new iMac?

Not anymore. Mac has released a beta version of Boot Camp. Basically, if you ever need to, you can restart your Mac into a true Windows environment, get whatever Windows-only work done, and then switch back. The new dual-core Intel Macs can run Windows natively.

Now that is truly backwards compatible. And for those that only stayed with Windows for a particular program or two, this is quite an incentive to finally switch over to the better platform.
