Jeff Pearlman of Sports Illustrated.com has a wonderfully written article on the reprehensible firing of a women's soccer coach at Belmont University in Nashville. She was fired because she let her team know (they were asking) that her not-legal-in-the-eyes-of-the-State-of-Tennessee wife is pregnant with their child. For acknowledging the open secret that she is a lesbian, the superbly successful and much-beloved coach was fired by the University administration for not being Christ-centric enough. You know, because of the gay.
I've been following this story casually for a while, but a friend in Nashville posted a link to this article and I think its great that SI.com is giving it some national attention, and I think the author is a good writer. (And you know how much i love a well-written piece of journalism.)
His lede is wonderfully poetic: "One of the greatest things about morality is how those who claim to act on its behalf are often the ones drinking from the emptiest cups."
Here's the article: Belmont gets it all wrong in ousting woman's soccer coach Lisa Howe
