The grocery store in the Castro, former site of Cala, then Lucky's then Delano's, has been vacant the past year. Trader Joe's wanted to go in, but the NIMBYs successfully blocked the successful grocery store going into a grocery space where every other grocery store has failed because it would be too successful in that space. Nice.

The SF Appeal has confirmation (including comments from one of my favorite local writers Violet Blue) that the Mill Valley grocery Mollie Stone's plans to open in the space as soon as early March. The neighborhood does need a good sized neighborhood grocer, and it's about time.
