all mashed UP!

Okay, typically I am not a star fcker. Growing up in Nashville you're around celebrity all the time, and frankly bothering celebs is just bad manners (I hear this is one of the things Nicole Kidman was surprised by and really likes about Nashville). Amy Grant was in my brother's class at school and used to babysit my friends (saw her at Christmas). Radney Foster was a babysitter too. Reece Witherspoon was a few years behind me in high school. Garth Brooks was always at the next table at the Pancake Pantry. Al Gore lived two doors down growing up. My Dad used to work with Shelby Singleton and the Elvis-producing bunch, and was sitting with Dolly Parton when JFK was shot. You might pick and grin and sing along at Christmas with music celebrities, but you don't bother them when they are out buying a quart of milk. (but if you are friends you do speak.)

That being said, I was a total fanboy mess when I got to hang out with DR Earworm at last month's Cockfight! party. I've been a huge fan of his spinning and his mashups for years, and I think it's amazing cool how much fame and notoriety he's gained over this year's "annual" mashup.

Wilson Hardcastle and DJ Earworm

Each year he mixes the top 25 pop hits of the year together into one piece. This year, he crafted something entirely new and it is just made of the awesome. Now h'es getting radio play, online sales and downloads, and TV guest spots.

It was exciting to drink and talk with him for a while until his set began, and I got to pick his brain about how he approaches mashups, the process behind this years United State of Pop 2009, music editing apps, switching from PC to Mac, and all sorts of shit.

And thanks to friend and fabulous photographer Georg Lester for the great pic!
