I used to make loaves of pumpkin bread for all my close friends every holiday season, but I haven't baked pumpkin bread in maybe six years. It's been far too long. I use my mother's recipe from when I was a child and it tastes like love-filled goodness. And I've discovered it makes a great thanksgiving dessert buttered, broiled, and served with quality vanilla bean ice cream.
Hamminah.
I brought it to school one year, around third or fourth grade I think, and mom taught me how to make it myself. One friend declared it his favorite food, and more than 30 years later I still save him a loaf or two, freeze it, and ship it to him. So someone in Lubbock had better start watching their mail.
So tasty. And so many affectionate associations. I even have a clear mental image of sitting down to breakfast as a family—which was big deal for Mom—and finally trying it for the first time. I can't believe I ever resisted. Irresistible.
