SF Sunday Streets

I like the San Francisco's Sunday Streets program, where certain avenues are blocked off to traffic on Sunday's to be used for recreation and community-building. Program organizers are hoping to expand the program to smaller neighborhoods and allow for the closing just one or two blocks for the kids and families to play.

I'm a huge fan of "let's go outside and play" and the closure of some of these small streets should have very little effect on traffic but a great effect on quality of City life. But I didn't know how carefully they've been planning this: "The pilot program, which will be held in addition to regular Sunday Streets events, will target neighborhoods that suffer from high rates of childhood obesity and lack safe places for kids to play."

Nice.
