neighborhood watch, or rather, viewed

While in grad school I spent many days at the Canvas Gallery/restaurant/coffee shop at 9th & Lincoln (in the 9th & Irving neighborhood). It is a nice, large, comfortable, sunny space with good (albeit a bit pricey) eats and free wi-fi (and even a few parking spaces!). Later, the Canvas started hosting nighttime events targeting singles (I forgot to mention the full bar). While the nightlife was a bit too straight and cheesy for me, the Canvas is just a great space-- featuring everything from dining tables to sofas by the fireplace, as well as a bar, full menu, art gallery, and DJ booth.

Sadly, MetroblogSF reports that it will be closing soon.

This is so sad. I spent so many days there studying for law school and falling in love with my then-boyfriend. This neighborhood fixture will be sadly missed =(
