fool the cat detector van and save on fees

I was a a friend's flat the other day and MAN was the litter box rank. I don't see how they deal with it. (I should note that the kitties causing the odor were not James', whom I just consider to be his roommates.)

I love web sites such as MakeIt and LifeHacker where clever people share their clever solutions to life's little problems.

Via a MacOS user Listserv, there is this neato hack at TreeHugger:

(1) a bathroom vent for the litter box
(2) a home automation system to vent the box for ten minutes, five minutes after use

Total cost: $80--totally worth not gassing yourself with cat piss odor/ammonia fumes every day.

(3) next step, make it run continuously via solar power.

And judging by the subsequent posts, it's doable.
