One word review: Preachy.
Five word review: A terrible play, beautifully acted.
In fact, all of the production values were impressive. But wow, was this hard to watch. Or rather, listen to. Not because the subject of race in modern America is uncomfortable, but I could not willfully suspend my disbelief enough to think that any first year law student could be so stupid, incompetent, and contrary to duty as these characters. Much less could I accept this behavior from the seasoned, talented professionals that these characters are supposed to be. Pretty much any episode of Law & Order does a better job of portraying (1) legal drama or (2) issues of modern race relations. David Mamet was really full of himself in this one. Ugh. I imagine this would be painful for any actual lawyer to sit through without screaming. Or litigating.
