Google became the dominant search engine basically by two methods (1) the complexity of it's search algorithms and (2) the simplicity of it's interface. Although now the search results are ad-laden and related to personal histories and online interactions, which may be distracting to some and disturbing to others. Particularly for mobile users. And let's face it, we don't want all of our searches logged into a pop-up history.
Giles at the Cult of Mac recommends a new mobile search engine for iPhone users which is seemingly just as powerful as the Google app but more mobile user friendly. And as they say at DDG, "Google tracks you, we don't."
Check out Duck, Duck, Go. I've made the switch and I'll let you know how it goes after a couple of weeks.
