I meant to mention that last week I was happy to receive an invitation from the lovely and talented Brian Fisher to go see the documentary Shut Up and Sing--about the Dixie Chicks, the off-hand comment said on stage in a London club (surrounded by war protesters) where Natalie was quoted saying "We're ashamed that the President of the United Sates is from Texas." and their experience to the mobilization of the right wing to destroy the Chicks and their carrers. Great documentary. Highly recommended.
And so not controversial. Disappointing (in displaying the intelligence of the average American) and a little scary (death threats, the power of partisan corporations), but not controversial, and I am appalled that NBC won't run ads for the documentary because portions of the film (not the ads mind you) may be critical of the President. Whatever.
We say the film on Monday (the 20th), and I didn't learn until that day that the Chicks played in Oakland the previous Friday. It wasn't sold out and I would have loved to have attended. But then I wouldn't have seen Casino Royale with Delicious Dean. Ah, choices.
I am not a documentary sort of guy usually, and this was great work. Go see it.
Until then, here's the cathartic video (very "The Crucible") of the first single from the new album:
"Not Ready to Make Nice."
