I suppose they couldn't call it the Knight Industries Two Thousand and Eight because it would sound like "Here Kitty!" Instead of black it would be pink and have Hello Kitty accents.
Other blogs report an advertising blitz, but the new NBC Knight Rider is news to me. I haven't seen any ads, but I only watch TV via my ReplayTV DVR so I don't see commercials anymore.
Val Kilmer is the voice of the new KITT (Knight Industries Three Thousand), but he wasn't originally intended to be. /Film ("Slash Film") reports that Will Arnett (Arrested Development) recorded and finished the entire show (which NBC is calling an "event"), but in craziness (hopefully) exists only in Hollywood and marketing, Arnett's work was deleted and replaced at the last minute by Kilmer because Arnett has done voice work for General Motors in the past, and the new KITT is Ford Mustang. Who else in the world would notice, much less consider it a conflict? Or for that matter, care. (On a related note, check out the /Film post. When did Kilmer get so fat?)
And really, KITT is now a Ford Mustang? AutoBlog commentators have "claimed from the beginning that the new Knight Rider TV series is going to suck" and are calling it a Rustang.
Regardless, you can tune in this Sunday night, February 17, and see for yourself.
