are cocktail weenies just small dogs?

This is Scout. He's more than awesome. he's the smartest dog I ever met, so much so occasionally I thought I have heard complete sentences come from him, but that was just so much body language and a look. He can, clearly, understand complete sentences event hough he may lack the ability to utter them. He amazing me.

He's Mac and Emily's once-upon-a-time rescue dog they got over a dozen years ago. (you can tell how old a couple of these photos are because the kids in them are now in college or almost).  He's a Jack Russell/chihuahua sort of mix. And was the King of the Neighborhood when the lived in Manhattan. He's lost both ACLs. He is made of the awesome. And while still playful and affectionate (and I am touched that he remembers me so fondly whenever I visit), he is as his age might suggest, mostly over it. Yes, yes... squeaky toy, squeaky toy... blah, blah, blah..call me when you have a treat.  Of if I can curl up in your lap and watch tv.

Taking the lead from my other sister-in-law, Emily and Mac took in a foster dog (a chihuahua) and her three puppies last month to nurse some back to health and care for the puppies until they could all be adopted.

For Christmas, little Leland got to keep the last puppy and it is now been added to the family.

Scout is a very small dog. The as-yet-to-be-named puppy (going temporarily by "Tree" on Christmas) is teensy. This taken-for-scale photo cracks me up:

So freaking adorable is this dog. I never liked chihuahuas before. I had an almost active dislike. I can't get enough of this puppy.

Ermagerd! Perpers!

Who himself can't get enough of chewing on my beard.

Timely, this also appeared in the paper (well, virtual paper) from Pearls Before Swine.
