five, 'kay?

As part of our new year of fitness and weight loss, Coco signed us up for a free Team In Training 5k in Golden Gate Park. We had every intention of walking it. We could have just "gone for a walk," but the organized nature of this made sure we would get up and go. It was at the ass-crack of dawn on a Sunday, and having been out at a hot tub party the night before until around three made the 7:30 departure a little painful. And HOLY FRAKING SHIT it was cold. And getting ready to leave before light, I didn't think to take my sunglasses. And three layers and a hat were not quite enough.

We are not used to such cold in SF, and it was enough that the standing water in the park froze solid, frost covered the grassy bits, and invisible layers of ice covered the walkways--enough that we each nearly bit it slipping more than once.

But pretty awesome quality time with the Coco.

Side note: the Team in Training people are a cult of fitness that is so very NPLU, and NOKD. Cult I say. At one point I seriously thought they were going to ask me to join AmWay. And when it came to the end of the rah-rahs, we were asked to all huddle together, pile hands and give a big Go Team. Coco and I had identical deadpan sidelooks to each other which clearly said, in no uncertain terms: "Yeaaaaah...I'm not doing that."

Besides, it was 8:30 in the morning, 34 degrees, morning light burning my retinas, and no coffee.

Yeah, not doing that.

Turns out: 5k isn't all that far, so we just kept walking and enjoying the morning until Coco's pedometer measured five miles. Then we went to brunch, which was even more fun.

On autopilot, we went to Harvey's. Our favorite people were on staff,James and Milton (although Mike was not on yet), and knowing us as they do immediately asked for our beverage order. Considering our Morning of Fitness, we ordered salads and vegetable juice. Well, "vegetable juice plus."

When served, Coco raised her glass and said to me, "Here's to fitness!"

Here's to fitness! Here's to fitness!

Love it.

Also making a Day of Fitness out of it, during brunch Clarke posted a pic from his icy morning AIDS Life Cycle training ride.

Coffee Break!

Which was pretty funny as his partner Allan was sitting next to us also enjoying Bloody Marys, not on a 50 mile bike ride.

Which meant that I had to take a picture and send it to Clarke (the subconscious caption being "nanny nanny boo boo").

Clarke is on a ride. Allan is not.

Then again, Clarke has dropped like 50 pounds during his training so I am not sure who really had the better morning....
