Only in SF could there be a FOURTH annual "Paul Rubens Day." Not that this is City-sponsored, but that the City has such funky people that a group of citizens would commit time, effort, and resources to an annual 'garish costume and wholesome smut' all-day event
From the SF Chronicle's weekend event listsings: "Soothe your inner child with outlandish costumes, tequila drinking and dancing, burlesque, trivia contests, secret words, a kissing booth, and clips of Reubens' many movie roles ("Blow," "Batman Returns," etc.)."
From the Paul Rubens Day website:
"This year the PRD after-party includes zany performances, naughty burlesque, weirdo sounds and video sensations and clips form The Very Porn Paul Reubens was watching when he got arrested. And of course you are encouraged to try your hand at the annual costume and trivia contests, the Miss Yvonne Beauty Pageant, which are hosted by the surprise celebrity guest star!"
Oh yeah, the event starts at an outdoor cafe, moves to various attractions across the city, and ends up in an adult cinema space. And if you can believe it, this event is straight. Well, bent for sure, but predominately if not exclusively het. Just sayin'.
