a matter of perspective

The Office of Government Commerce, headquartered in Norwich U.K. with offices in London, commissioned a new logo "to signify a bold commitment to the body’s aim of 'improving value for money by driving up standards and capability in procurement.'"

The new logo cost 14,000 pounds and is very bold and confident.

Although frankly, I could come up with that in an afternoon and be happy to charge a mere 14,000 dollars.

Of course, once they printed all of the mouse pads, notepads, pens, and keychains, the employees noticed right away what the designers did not consider. Turned on its side, the logo conveys something else all together:

According to the article in the Telegraph, a spokesman said of the unintended implication of the logo: "it is not inappropriate to an organisation that’s looking to have a firm grip on Government spending."

"Firm grip" heh heh. A brand expert is also quoted regarding the added publicity...heh heh... he said "column inches."

Frankly, with the phrases "firm grip" and "column inches," I thought this whole thing might be some sort of UK April Fools bit, but it appears legit. And if so, funny.
