cuppa tea

I have a persistent pet peeve when it comes to ordering hot beverages in restaurants. Whenever I order a coffee, they bring me cream and sugar weather I'd like it or not. I take it black and bitter, like my soul, and the tepid cream which has been sitting out God knows how long is not and appetizing offering. But my great annoyance is that they invariably bring me coffer (1) with a spoon in it and(2) without a saucer under it. I don't need the spoon. I don't want the spoon. And without a saucer, I am forced to put a wet and dirty spoon on the table top where I will be eating, setting my phone, or resting my arms. If they are going to force a spoon on me, they should be willing to take it away or give me someplace to put it. It's a small thing, that is a great annoyance. And don't get me started on the fact that I have yet to find a server who knows the difference between a plate and a saucer. In variably at one restaurant in town I always get the other when asking for either one.

As with ordering tea, I do need a spoon to agitate the tea as it steeps, but will still need a saucer to discard both spoon and teabag (if the tea was served as bag and not loose). After centuries of serving tea, I am amazed that our civilization still hasn't worked this out in the majority of the service industry. The soggy teabag—leave it in the cup or find a suitable place to put it?

And that my friends, is why I love this new teacup design from Samir Sufi: the Teacup SlingsHOT.
