cool Christmastime
How I adore The Whitney.
Chance check in resulted in faboo yet brief social time. Merry merry!

Whiteny Daane is one of my all time favorite people, and she always has such cool stuff going on. Although she calls it "work" and "life." I still call it cool stuff. like this.
And I'm glad I got to see her before I had to cross a bridge to a very odd party. But it was nice to see some more fun faces, and take nephew-in-law out for a bit.
And yay for fun time with Sparkle Josh! I totally need to get him for drinks with Whitney.

Josh is always so much fun. And he completely puts up with my sass and takes it as the love which is intended. I complimented him on his bracelets, and asked him if he wore those when he fought crime.

Merry Mary!

love in the afternoon
Quality time with Sinclair and Jonathan at Burger Up.

Jonny and Sinclair had been joking over e-mail that she has slept with most of the staff here. I thought, "Hey, cool. All right." Apparently, it's been a joke with them because Sinclair is so chaste and the jokes were ironic, not good-natured ribbing. I did not clue into that, so all of the conversations during lunch and comments made by the staff while I was waiting sounded dirty.
"Is your party all here yet?"
"No (Wilson answers knowingly), "I'm waiting for Sinclair ----."
"Oh! I know Sinclair. Everyone here loves Sinclair..."
(me, internally, "Holy crap! I had no idea she had such a wild side!")
It's only by a turn of farcical comments at the end of lunch that my misconception was revealed.
Although I sort of like it the other way better.

do you hear the people sing?
Ah. Fellow Ensworth alumni will remember, hopefully fondly, The Christmas Sing. Long ago it became a "Seasonal Sing." Then I think they did away with it all together. Several years ago, when they created the high school, they merged Grandparents Day, which used to have its own specific musical program into the all school Winter Assembly. So while now non-demoninational in name, is all full of Christian Christmas music. And dancing. And it is wonderful.
As escort and chauffeur to the parents, now grandparents, I have been fortunate enough to attend too. Ellen in in her junior year so just one more after this one.
Love the Ellen.

And y'all know what a music star she is. She plays keyboard with the jazz band and I am told she does not get to improvise or get very colorful as she is the one to "keep the beat for the band." Which is also awesome.

The Franna and the Ellen are pretty great together,

and it is part of the Grandparent's Day.Christmas Sing tradition to take the grandkids to the lunch of their choice afterwards. Which in recent years has been the Pancake Pantry. It was a very cold day and a very long line. While Franna and Ellen parked I waited in line, and could not resist answering the questions pondered loudly aloud by the tourists behind me. I am my father's son. I did include in the story, towards the end, that my grandfather (Franna's father) built the first one and my father built the new one. They asked "and you stand in line like the rest of us?" I admitted that had David (the owner) been inside (I checked) we would have recognized each other and he would have happily seated us, but I wasn't going to say anything to the staff I did not know. I thought that would be kind of dickish. If I saw a manager I knew and they offered, well that's another story.
However, after about five minutes waiting on the curb in the freezing temps, my aged waifish mother decided she might say something and we were seated quickly. I think she's earned that having her father and husband build the place with the family, and her serving on the board of the family company which gives them a long-standing family relationship discount on the rent.
The Pancake pantry is very much a family business, and we are part of the family.

So much in keeping with their personalities that I could have ordered for them by guessing, Franna had the pecan maple pancakes and Ellen had the chocolate chip. My word both were tasty. But also less like "breakfast" and more like "cake." Or perhaps "diabetes." Next time you're there on a cold day as we were, order a half coffee/half hot chocolate. So good. Depending on your server, you may even get marshmallows, which is just an early Christmas.
More of the awesome.

I had already scheduled lunch at Burger Up (of course) with Sinclair and Jonathan before I knew it was Grandparents Day day, so I was happy with a bowl of grits and fork-fulls of their respective pancakes. So good. And oh Lawd the grits. I don't know what she puts ion them, but I was told that they are even quick grits and not the take-an-hour kind. But also people come in for the grits. And once when the woman who prepares them was out sick, people complained that they didn't taste right until she got back. I was also told by our server that she once say her put a possibly impossible amount of butter in there, which I believe. I am also guessing there is some heavy cream, perhaps even some lard, and surely a scoop or two of love.
Man I love those grits.
But clearly not as much as I love the women I was with.

body tags
From the department of regrettable tattoos: when the web was new and he was learning HTML, this hottie that markup would be his life and that HML 1.0 was the future. I can only assume by the absence of shift, his physique was ripped then too. A bartender (was he once the bar "back"?) tonight at Canvas:

The front was equally impressive, and much less blurry in real life.

chamber music
After a late arrival, unpacking, momma love, and a freshen up, I was invited to join an event at Jeff's gallery downtown (The Rymer Gallery) for festive food and drink and a benefit for the Nashville GLBT Chamber of Commerce. Good things are happening for the community and community businesses. And I got to hit the ground running for the holiday socializing.
And get my picture in the paper :)

I'd give a photo credit but this was just forwarded to me. I do like this pic though.

Santa Skivvies Run 2012
At the Gloss holiday party Friday night, one of the organizers of the Santa Skivvies Run was impressed by my face paint and asked me if I would volunteer to paint faces/bodies for the run on Sunday. I thought it was going to be about 45 minutes, but four hours later I had had a great time!

And while not my idea, the "mistletoe on the abs" design became the crowd favorite. I was actually kind of pleased with how it came out.

My friend preferred it on his rather impressive chest. I thought he needed a kiss mark too.

Red noses were also very popular, in more ways than one.

Ho Ho Ho everyone!
For Allen's Flickr set of the day, click here. For Georg Lester Photography's collection of the day, click here. The pec holly was really some of my best/popular work that day.

sweet tea
Our holiday together tradition continues, and this year we took High Christmas Tea at the Saint Francis, with some well-crafted wassail afterward at the Four Seasons.

how much?
It was a cold and rainy walk to the postal place this afternoon. I was surprised when the bundle in the window display moved. He looked up briefly at me, warm and cuddled as I stood in the cold and wet, and seemed to intensify his coziness and settled deeper into his curled-up comfort.
Dog bowl indeed.
mochachocholatta
Ben posted that at his job today, there is an enormous bowl of cocoa powder, which made him very happy.
I could only think that if there is not already a drag queen named Coco Powder, there should be.

your number may be up
Via the SF Appeal:
Your Phone Number Might Be Changing: New '628' Area Code Could Come To The '415' Zone
Your Phone Number Might Be Changing: New '628' Area Code Could Come To The '415' Zone
The CPUC is considering adding a 628 area code because all of the available three-digit prefixes in the 415 area code will be used up by October 2015. When there are no more prefixes available for assignment, more numbers must be made available, and this means the addition of another area code, the CPUC said in a fact sheet on its website..
The 415 area code is currently used in San Francisco, most of Marin County and parts of San Mateo County.
The CPUC can either divide the 415 area into two parts, forcing some residents to switch area codes, or assign the new 628 area code to new numbers

Sundance Santa
The annual Sundance Saloon Holiday Ball was again a great festive night of fun. And special thanks too to our Santa for another year of fun photos!

Beach Blanket Buffy
The Lone Star's Fanboy Buffy Night with Beach Blanket Babylon sing-a-long was pretty awesome. Lovely people, and shouts out to the darling and lovable BBB performer and friend Ryan Rigazzi who couldn't make the event (a family member's birthday? priorities!). His cast mates were super cute though, and definitely PLU on Buffy Fanboy Night.

Ryan is moving with his partner to Puerto Vallarta in a couple of weeks. His little bundle of energy will be missed.
As disturbingly intense and knowledgeable as we were, Team Tarn/Satryicon/Raviv and Hardcastle did not place in the finals in the Buffy trivia. And those that did sort of scared me in their detailed knowledge. And if you know me, that is saying something.
My favorite and unexpected part of the night was igniting the crowd into the night-long audience participation bit of shouting "SHUT UP DAWN!" at the screen any time the Scrappy Doo/Cousin Oliver of BtVS had a line. I said it at first without thinking but was quickly joined by my bearded brethren. I've always hater her character—but I had no idea the dislike was so universal, and visceral. So much fun.

Groove-y
Bryan and his Groove Salon and Art Space hosted some more holiday cheer this year, and I got to stop by for the final moments after the Golden Girls. Lots of lovely.

So many have been impressed/concerned about my tattoo. Seriously. So many. A tattoo? Haven't these people hard of face paint? What about make-up?
Still, fun for me.
Still, fun for me.
more with the merry making
One of my favorite holiday parties is back. Lots of smiles!

Ho!
(While the shirt may look a bit too casual, it was actually full of battery operated Christmas lights. I bring the festive.)
