So, Jay Leno has left The Tonight Show after 22 years. I think I may have seen less than a dozen of those shows, and none in their entirety. Is it weird that I still think of him as "the new guy" after Johnny Carson? Leno still on the college stand-up circuit when I was in high school. Then again, I don't watch late night talk shows any more. It's all clips and highlights on a mobile device if it's noteworthy. And Kimmel and Fallon are much better at this for my tastes. But I understand that Leno is the man for the widest, lowest-common-denominator appeal. Mom loves him. She's clever but 77 and not so much on-the-pulse.
I think of older folks who still think of Johnny as new after Jack Parr, so there is also that.
My late nights are a DVR'd dose of John Stewart. Give me The Daily Show over The Tonight Show any day.
Although Jimmy Fallon is both sweet and clever. I think he should introduce a new soap opera parody and call it "Fallon Crest," but I am also dating myself again.

Make it so!
Oh my starships. This is Star Trek mashup at its best. It's Let It Go from Disney's "Frozen," reimagined to the movie "Star Trek: First Contact."

a long time ago, we used to be friends
But I haven't thought of you lately at all.
JK. I think about you all the time.
I love being a part of the Veronica Mars Kickstarter campaign. The first real trailer arrived in my inbox today!

5k, 10k, MST3k
Loosen your eating pants and settle in after Thanksgiving dinner: There's a all-day Mystery Science Theater 3000 marathon, online at MST3KTurkeyDay.com.
Via The Mary Sue: "The episodes will be hosted by Joel Hodgson himself, and chosen by you. Well, by what Hodgson percieves to be fan favorites by what gets tweeted at him, so everybody get on there and start telling him to run Space Mutiny and The Final Sacrifice."
Check out the Riff of the Day!
Or, if you have loads of time, enjoy S01E06 - The Crawling Hand

a Steele of lesser mettle
NBC executives, apparently still failing to find good new ideas, are working on bringing back Remmington Steele. Which could be really cool, except that (1) the original ran its course directly into the ground in its final, truncated season, and (2) they are envisioning the reboot as a sequel, and a half-hour situation comedy.

Modern Family Easter egg
Sometimes I just can't get enough of Helena Lamb. She's supper happy fun time, and also the Assistant Director on ABC's Modern Family. It's fun knowing someone on the show, meeting cast and crew, and watching the show for the little background gems—such as friends as extras, or photos of friends in the background—and little easter eggs like this one in this season's opener.

Now that's a shout out.
Update: Awww. Helena put that in as a shout out to her awesome brother John in Chile who watches the show via iTunes subscription.

stArcher Trek
Somebody mashed up Archer dialog to Star Trek: The Animated Series. If you're a fan of Archer, you'll think this is great.

less than one ohm
Well, that was super nerdy, and so much fun. Irresistible, and not at all futile.
I just wish I could have worn this shirt:
Chilling afterward at home, I saw this making the rounds on social media. I wept like Picard being assimilated.
The power of Trek. Resistance is futile.

I could have sworn that her name was Veronica
We are so doing this. I love Veronica Mars, and I am not alone. Rob Thomas has been trying to get a movie made ever since the plug got pulled on the show after the third season. Now he's turned to Kickstarter to fund it. We'll see how it goes!
Update: Holy shit. The minimum goal of $2 million was raised in less than 12 hours.
Lest we forget:

Veronica Mars was also positively received by other writers. Joss Whedon, who made a guest appearance in the second season episode "Rat Saw God", said that it was the "Best. Show. Ever. Seriously, I've never gotten more wrapped up in a show I wasn't making, and maybe even more than those [...] These guys know what they're doing on a level that intimidates me. It's the Harry Potter of shows."[64][65] Kevin Smith, who guest starred in the episode "Driver Ed," said that Veronica Mars was "hands-down, the best show on television right now, and proof that TV can be far better than cinema."[66] Stephen King described the series as "Nancy Drew meets Philip Marlowe, and the result is pure nitro. Why is Veronica Mars so good? It bears little resemblance to life as I know it, but I can't take my eyes off the damn thing."[67] Ed Brubaker called it "the best mystery show ever made in America."[68]

if you're not on Jenna's side
So, 30 Rock is over. Such an incredibly funny show. In honor of the series finale, Buzzzfeed has posted The Ultimate Jenna Maroney Insult Guide.
I like the second one so much because it is so unabashedly sociopathic.

tasty, tasty murder
I think we may need to start having campy viewing parties for Murder, She Wrote. These sixteen reasons to do so are pretty convincing.
However, not as convincing as the Murder, She Wrote drinking game.

white trash tv
Little Honey Boo Boo is hoppin' through the forest, scoopin' up the field mice and boppin' 'em on the head.
You know it's happening.
I really wish we as a society would stay paying these people so much attention rewarding such behavior. But the show came up in work conversation today, and now that ditty is stuck in my head. I had to make a jpg to get it out.

...and I immediately thought of my old friend Paul Schmidtberger, who once said, "Dating a butcher? That would be so Ann B. Davis."

I think this may be the best prank show yet. C'mon, with Betty White? Awesome.

the real A-List
infoMania's Bryan Safi is on the top of my A-List. And after he clever rips Logo's A(hole)-List, I sort of want to stalk him. Does he live in SF? Why have I not met him? Why is he not my boyfriend?
I don't, but I know he's made of awesome.

HDM Oh My!
In case you didn't clue in, expensive HDMI cables are a racket. It's a digital signal, and the $4 cable will work just as well as that $250 Monster/BestBuy is trying to sell you.
Gizmodo wrote a trilogy about the myth of Monster/HDMI cables in 2007. Now here's a handy visual one-sheet to explain it.

and they're doing it under cabbage leaves
Someone referred me to the "Never Seen Lost" blog of this season's, the final season, episode recaps. As someone who lost interest in Lost years ago, and was to be honest just faking it to begin with, these context-free recaps are HI-larious. And his sharpie-drawn illustrations are of the awesome.
He starts out with a spoiler disclaimer: "SPOILER ALERT! I am going to reference a bunch of junk that happens in the episode. So if you are waiting to see it, don’t get mad at me if you read this anyway and I ruin your surprise. I also plead innocent to inadvertently ruining any other surprises in this blog. Like the ending to 'The Usual Suspects' or how babies are made (stork)."
While the recaps are great, I keep coming back to the "where babies come from" disillusionment, because it comes with this great illustration:
The caption reads: "The Stork is making babies while dad watches the news in the other room."
I never considered it that way. "Yeah, babies come from the stork. Because he's doing your mom."
