Coffee, break

One last thought on the recent Nashville trip. My mother, my brother Jay, and I are coffee people. For medical reasons, Mom has had to switch to half-caf or mostly decaf, but when I'm home it's an excuse for a full-bodied pot of coffee.

Jay is a purist. He has a an espresso machine at his house and won't drink out of a pot that was brewed more than two hours ago. At his house, the question of freshness is down to the minute.

Mom and I are a different story. At Sheppard Place, when I ask my mother of the coffee pot, "How fresh is this?" the answer is a day of the week.

There is a reason the pot is below the microwave.
