I've always had an affinity for the dive bar. Generally they are places you can be assured will be free of posers, have one genuine person (even if they just genuinely don't care), and have owenership/management who have long since abondoned the upkeep to apathy.
But considering the recent spate of violence around the City, you might want to think twice and really consider what sort of hole you are diving into when you drink off the beaten path. (From MetroBlog SF)
