There's a new show on ABC Family: The Middleman. It first caught my eye as a free episode download on iTunes. I downloaded it so I'd have something to watch while waiting for the plane or on the treadmill. I never got around to watching it when Shilpa asked me if I'd seen it and recommended it heartily.
I love The Middleman.
It's quick and it's quirky and it's got the clever fast banter that I love. And it's all geeky comic-book based and is so chock-full of eclectic cultural references that it just sets me abuzz. Those who grew up on comic books, and as the heroine says "classic X-Men, not Ultimate," will like what they are doing.
The Middleman: Fighting evil so you don't have to.
The trailer:
It's campy and it's wholesome and sometimes I laugh out loud. Shilpa has demanded that we watch these together in the future as she can often tell that they are alluding to something, but she doesn't know what.
Monday's episode had all of these random Back to the Future references, for no reason and with neither explanation nor acknowledgment. I imagine it was just a bunch of writers amusing themselves. And us.
In addition to the clever banter is the Dear-God-In-Heaven-Handsome Matt Keeslar with his milk-and-cookies deadpan delivery.
His exclamations alone are worth the watching. he beats the Holy Crap out of Robin-speak. And I need a Noser prompting inner lyrics in my hallway.
And total points to Dub Dub for recognizing she's the sidekick, and bringing up that the Joker (in the 80's comics) had a nickname for Batman's sidekick: Robin the Boy Hostage.
Mondays on ABC Family. Or whenever you like, online.

I so heart the Middleman! Now if someone would just create a blog to reference all of the references (sounds like a job for a librarian!), my life would be gosh-darn near perfect. It would likely impress the croutons and fondue off of me.
ZOMG! That YouTube video was AWESOME!!
You need to do one for every eppy.
AWESOME! - but ye missed a good one - the Rendezvous Point was near "Lyon Estates" - an upscale neighborhood being built in 1985 in the first movie, and shown as kind of a place for upscale losers in 2015 in the second movie! :)
